More About Shannan Ponton...

With over 20 years experience in the industry, Shannan has acquired extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of exercise, fitness, nutrition, health, people management and the media.

During his career Shannan has developed and delivered innovative personal training, fitness, motivational and general life solutions to many individuals, companies and teams, at a state, national and international level.

Always looking for new approaches to gain maximum results Shannan is known to incorporate a diverse array of techniques such as kickboxing, spin, swimming, martial arts, circuit and weight training. By gaining trust, Shannan is often able to get more from people – driving them harder than they ever could have imagined. After all, despite his bright personality, this dedicated trainer is known for sayings like ‘pain is just weakness leaving the body.’

This year Shannan returns to series 7 of The Biggest Loser as fitness trainer and mentor.

Outside of his work on The Biggest Loser, Shannan has written his first book, Hard ‘N’ Up, to be published by Harper Collins in January 2012 and developed his own ‘Shannan’ range of exercise equipment available in Woolworths stores in November. He kicked off his first Shannan Challenge – an 8 week online weight loss program with the Biggest Loser Club, and his Biggest Loser Express Rapid Weight Loss Kit about to hit Big W stores.

Outside of his work commitments Shannan can be found surfing or running on the beach, or on a beach in Bali – his favourite indulgence.

My main satisfaction in being a Biggest Loser trainer is:
Playing a part in rebuilding the contestants from the inside out. Watching them reach personal milestones virtually every day at Camp Biggest Loser and then the pinacle, watching the contestants standing empowered and triumphant on the scales at finale.
The qualities I want my team to show me this year are:
Blue Team philosophies never change and they're something I expect my team to embrace every year.

1. Play the game with respect and integrity
2. Control the controllables and let the variables look after themselves
3. Don't be tricky and try and outsmart the game or life in general for that matter
4. Do everything with good intentions, with an open and pure heart.

My personal philosphy for life and for training is 'hard but fair'
What I'm looking forward to most about this series is:
Working with singles again. Phew, the last couple of years have been tough on trainers with whole families ganging up and focusssing their fury on trying to maintain their unhealthy justifications, excuses and habits.
My favourite healthy snack is:
Low carb protein bars.
The motto I live by is:
Hard but Fair. Live with respect and integrity.
The piece of advice I'd give people wanting to start their own weight loss journeys is:
Just get started. Too many people procrastinate on insignificant details, 'Is it best to train in the morning or night?', 'Is it best to train before or after food?', 'What is the best exercise for fat loss?' - it doesn't matter! Just get started. It really is as simple as 'eat less and move more.' Hard'n up and just get going!
