The Biggest Loser Singles Brenda elimination interview

Elimination Interview: Brenda

Date: Tuesday, 14 February 2012
Brenda offers her thoughts on team politics, playing the game, and life after The Biggest Loser Singles.
The first of the Reds to exit Camp Biggest Loser this season, Brenda’s departure marks another controversial moment for a team that’s certainly weathered its share of storms already.

“Margie and Lydia aren’t the most popular people in the house,” Brenda begins, “and part of their reasoning for me going up [for Elimination] – whether they really believed this or not – was because I got along with people, so I’d have a better chance of surviving.”

Falling beneath the dreaded Yellow Line was especially agonising, says Brenda, because she already knew the consequences. “A few people in the house had heard Margie and Lydia saying that they were going to put me up whether I had a bigger weight loss or not,” she explains, “so as soon as we went below I got extremely upset because I knew what was about to happen.”

Though Brenda admits that she fancied her chances against Alex going into Elimination, believing herself safe from the White Team’s vote, she certainly doesn’t hold Rebekah’s decision against her. “Bek was really upset, apologising over and over, saying she’d ended my journey, and I just said, from the heart, ‘I was up against Alex, I would’ve done the same thing.’ It’s a hard thing being on the other side of the table; I don’t hold anyone personally responsible.”

Brenda’s journey within Camp Biggest Loser was certainly one of highs and lows, with Michelle’s patience occasionally stretched to breaking point as she tried to help her trainee break down her emotional barriers. “Michelle’s an alpha female and very strong in wanting a winning team. She was hard on me at times but brought out the best in me and the worst – sometimes you’ve got to see both to know where you’re at.”

Trying to remain as focussed as possible on her reason for being in the competition, Brenda saw her fair share of contestants seemingly more intent on ‘playing the game.’ “In the beginning there was definitely some feeling people out and working out who the stronger people in the house were. Luke initially was very friendly with everyone, he was very friendly with me, then he realised that Lydia and Margie were the strongest females in the house and all of sudden became their friends.”

Now knuckling down to a gruelling training regime on the outside, Brenda is committed to continuing to shed the kilos, grateful to The Biggest Loser for putting her on the path. “I guess what the show’s given me is a starting block for knowing I can push myself, and also put me in a very public arena to do what I need to do.”
